A multi-million dollar redevelopment of the Caroline Springs Leisure Centre has been unveiled.
The $11.8 million refurbishment is set to transform leisure services in the area, with 15 new sports courts the cornerstone of the new facilities.
Melton mayor Bob Turner was joined by local MP Marlene Kairouz to open the facility on April 15.
Cr Turner said the new-look centre was a boost for local sport and community groups.
“This has transformed Caroline Springs Leisure Centre into one of the most impressive sporting precincts, not only in our city, but in Melbourne’s western suburbs,” Cr Turner said.
“It’s wonderful to think of all the healthy competition that is set to take place on these courts over the coming years.”
The redevelopment included construction of two more indoor highball courts (basketball, netball and futsal); new changerooms, first aid room, function room, commercial kitchen; 12 outdoor tennis courts with lighting; one outdoor netball court; and three outdoor basketball/netball rings.
The state government contributed $2.5 million towards the development, and Tennis Australia contributed $50,000.
“We are very grateful for all the support that has helped create a winning and much-needed sports precinct for our fast-growing community,” Cr Turner said. “Local sporting clubs are such a positive part of our city and I hope that this facility will not only support them, but encourage greater participation.”
The facility is used by the Caroline Springs and Melton basketball associations, as well as Futsal Victoria, Tennis Victoria and various community sporting groups.
The opening comes on the back of an announcement of a new basketball stadium to be built in Cobblebank.
