A Bacchus Marsh bride-to-be who was devastated when her wedding deposit was stolen from her purse has regained faith in her community.
The woman, who asked not to be named, was working at The Village Bacchus Marsh shopping plaza a fortnight ago when the $800 deposit was taken from her bag.
A man was caught on security footage entering the staff room at the back of the store.
The woman’s fiance, Aaron Nix, set up a crowdfunding campaign – Gofundme.com – on Bacchus Marsh Residents social media page in the hope of raising the equivalent sum. Residents donated $390 in the first two days.
“Although there was security footage of the theft, it’s unlikely she’ll see that money again,” Mr Nix said.
The couple got engaged in September but have had a run of bad luck.
“She started working overtime to save money for the wedding deposit and was devastated when the money was stolen,” he said.
“Our car died and we’re saving for rent and bond because the house we are renting is being sold next month.
“When I told her the community had donated almost $400 in the first few days, she cried. We’re thankful to everybody.”
Mr Nix said any money raised over the $800 target would be given back to the Bacchus Marsh community in some way.
