Pupils celebrate National Literacy and Numeracy Week

Shaniya, Gillian, Brandon and Thomas had no trouble getting out of bed and off to school last Wednesday.

All they had to do was wash their faces, brush their teeth and pick out their favourite bedtime books before hitting the road.

Melton South Primary School pupils celebrated National Literacy and Numeracy Week with a pyjama day, and classroom teacher Dylan Redmayne said about 350 children got into the action, which builds a bridge between reading at school and reading at home.

“It’s extremely important to build a positive culture of reading at home,” Mr Redmayne said.

“It really helps to strengthen literacy and an interest in reading.”
