Rockbank Primary School’s youngest pupils took centre stage last week as the school celebrated 100 days of prep.
The growing school has 40 prep pupils this year, and on July 25 they were recognised during a school parade and presented with a certificate.
Prep/grade 1 teachers Lucy Bull and Sue Mundie said it was a memorable day for the pupils.
“The children had made party hats and made special badges, and the prep and grade 1 students and their families all had a special lunch to mark the occasion,” Ms Mundie said.
“It’s something we do every year and it’s always a highlight.
“The focus for the first 100 days is mainly around learning the routine of school, learning to read and write and count, and all the things that are so important going forward.
“Sometimes it’s a big adjustment for the kids, but most slip into it pretty well after going to kinder beforehand.
“They’ve learnt a lot in 100 days.
“These kids should be very proud, and they’ll get another acknowledgement at the end of the year for finishing their first year of schooling.”
In one of the fastest growing regions in the state, Rockbank Primary School has seen a steady increase in its prep numbers each year.
“It’s a growing enrolment,” Ms Mundie said.
“Rockbank is in the middle of lots of new developments, and in my time I’ve seen it grow from only six preps to 40 now.”
