A Victoria Police social media page which will service the Moorabool shire is now live and residents are being urged to give it the “thumbs up”.
The new Eyewatch Facebook page provides updates from the Moorabool policing area from Beaufort in the west to Bacchus Marsh in the east.
Inspector Brendon McCrory, who oversees the region which includes more than 120 towns, is calling on residents to stay in the loop through the page.
“It will be the best way for our community members to become aware of what police operations are going on,” Inspector McCrory said.
“We will also release details in relation to people who are wanted in the area, and bring residents up to speed about community events police are involved in.”
Victoria Police has launched about 40 Eyewatch pages, including the Moorabool and Melton service areas, across the state to engage with residents and provide more frequent access to policing news and crime prevention information.
More than 12,000 people are already following the Eyewatch Melton service area Facebook page.
Residents are also encouraged to report crimes through Crime Stoppers, freeing up triple-0 operators to respond to emergencies through the page, Inspector McCrory said.
He said Victoria Police Eyewatch pages will be rolled out for all of the state’s 54 policing areas by mid-year.
