Police cracked down on driving offences across the western suburbs over the weekend, with multiple cases of dangerous motorists being caught in Melton.

A 20-year-old male driver was caught allegedly speeding in a modified vehicle on the evening of July 9 in Caroline Springs.

Police intercepted a blue Volkswagen Golf after they observed the driver allegedly speeding through roadworks and a residential area at about 9.50pm.

The driver was issued with two driving infringements as police alleged the vehicle was modified to improve performance.

On the same evening, police intercepted an 18-year-old female in Melton who was driving as an unaccompanied learner.

The Bonnie Brook woman had only recently received her silver Commodore back from the impound yard, but police immediately impounded it again.

She is expected to be charged on summons with driving offences.

The police efforts are part of the statewide Operation Achilles, which aims to target hoon drivers.

The operation has charged more than 240 Melbourne drivers and impounded more than 150 vehicles since July last year.

Operation Achilles remains ongoing and anyone with information about illegal hoon activity is urged to report this to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
