Police car pursuit in Melton

A man has been charged after he failed to stop for police while driving an alleged stolen vehicle in Melton on Monday, February 7.

A woman whose car was allegedly stolen from Weir Views on the night of Sunday, February 6, called triple-0 after spotting the vehicle at a car wash on Barnes Road.

It is believed police attended the car wash and set up stop sticks at the entrance, however the driver of the stolen car allegedly reversed at speed and drove across the gutter onto the road, narrowly missing police and civilian vehicles.

The vehicle continued straight across the road, over another gutter and into the car park of a fast-food restaurant, then over another gutter onto Barries Road, police said.

The vehicle then allegedly failed to stop at a red traffic light at the intersection of Barries and Coburns roads.

Police followed the vehicle to Karo Court in Melton where the driver pulled over and fled on foot.

The 29-year-old Mount Clear man was arrested without incident shortly after.

He was interviewed by detectives and charged with a number of theft, driving and drug offences.

The man was remanded to appear at the Sunshine Magistrates Court on Tuesday, February 8 and will return to court on Wednesday, February 16 for sentencing.
