MY PLACE: Peter Faux

What’s your connection to Melton?

I live and work in Melton. I run the dance/Pilates/Garuda studio Peter Faux Dance Ensemble. My parents and brother also live here.

How long have you lived in the area?

Thirty-five years.

Tell us about your involvement in the dance school.

I opened the dance studio in Melton in 1986, at the back of the Supergym. We are now located at 53 Reserve Road.

Why did you become involved in dance/performing arts?

I had a health problem (lung issue) and the doctor suggested tap dancing to help. We found out I was good at it and it progressed into other forms of dance and a professional career.

What stage productions have been involved in over the years?

I have a professional dance background, performing with Ballet Victoria, Australian Ballet, Jan Rebel Dance Co, Arts Council of Australia, Michael Edgley Productions, JC Williamsons Theatres as well as appearing on major TV networks and in films. Productions have included

Funny Girl, Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver!, Pinocchio and numerous pantomimes.

What are you passionate about?

Life. Learning. Everything is about learning. I enjoy backpacking in wilderness areas for extended trips. Playing handicap pennant golf for Woodend Golf Club.

What are some of the things you love most in your line of work?

Encouraging clients to understand their bodies and get them to move more freely and efficiently. Seeing the smile and relief as people recover from surgery and injuries.

What’s something people don’t know about you?

Spent 28 years working with Southern TV Corporation – as Humphrey B. Bear.

What do you love about Melton?

The diversity of our society. The growth and development within the area.

What would you like to see improved?

More general practice of courtesy, manners and respect towards each other within the community. It would be good for council to establish a performing arts centre.
