The City of Melton celebrated NAIDOC Week with a special event on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 6.

Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung elder Aunty Julianne Axford gave the Welcome to Country and Kirrip Aboriginal Corporation justice worker Keenan Madden performed a smoking ceremony.

After the ceremony, Kirrip Aboriginal Corporation chair Skye Gooch and community engagement officer Cheetah Toohey gave speeches on what NAIDOC Week means to them.

The speeches were followed by cultural performances from Aboriginal womens dance group Djirri Djirri, who performed traditional dance, as well as hip hop group Indigenous Outreach Project who had the audience up and dancing.
