Philanthropy and friendship celebrated

The Melton Owls branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) celebrated its 21st birthday this month, with members coming together for a high tea party to commemorate the anniversary.

The CWA is an organisation that has groups across the state, offering a platform for women to provide philanthropic support for other women, children and families.

The Owls branch is the last Melton CWA group, formed in 2001 as a night branch to provide an alternative for those who worked during the day time, but has since outlasted the original Melton branch which ran for more than 80 years.

CWA Melton Owls president Jennifer Peters said one of the best parts was the friendship and fun.

“We do a lot of fundraising, but when we do the fundraising we make sure we’re enjoying ourselves at the same time,” she said.

“I’ve got to know a lot of the ladies and I’ve become quite good friends with them.”

Ms Peters said the Melton branch was keen to welcome new members to add to the group.

“We’re a group of women who enjoy getting together to help other women, children and families,

“We have fun doing it, we make friends and get to know others in the community… you don’t have to be a good cook and you don’t have to be crafty.”
