Construction of four raised pedestrian crossings are set to begin on Main Street Bacchus Marsh from Sunday 15 February as part of a state government road safety initiative.
Three existing zebra crossings along Main Street will be upgraded to asphalt raised pedestrian crossings, while a new raised crossing will be installed west of the Main and Young streets intersection.
The works aim to reduce the risk of high-severity crashes involving pedestrians and cyclists by slowing vehicles and improving visibility for both pedestrians and motorists.
According to the government, the upgrades are also designed to strengthen connections between pedestrian and cycling routes through Bacchus Marsh.
To minimise disruption to traders, residents and the broader community, construction will take place at night from Sunday to Thursday, between 9pm and 7am.
Traffic management measures, including reduced speed limits, will be in place during work hours to ensure the safety of crews and road users.
Authorities have advised that construction dates and timeframes are subject to change depending on weather and site conditions. Contractors will work to limit delays and access impacts wherever possible, and any residents or businesses directly affected by temporary access changes will be contacted.
