While the weather may be chilly, there’s never been a better time to get out and about in Melton after the opening of three parks last week.
The redeveloped Hannah Watts Park and Bill Cahill Reserve, as well as the new Arnolds Creek Play Space were all unveiled last week following six months of works.
All three parks were jointly funded by council and the state government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.
Melton mayor Bob Turner said the new parks should encourage more local residents to spend time outdoors.
“These are modern, well-considered spaces that integrate the natural environment with play and make spending time outdoors enticing and accessible to the whole community,” Cr Turner said. “The colourful playgrounds, nature spaces and shaded picnic areas will promote social and physical activity for all ages, stimulate young imaginations, and make everyone feel included.”
The Hannah Watts Park works – stage one of a larger redevelopment – have a giant slide, in-ground trampolines, a balance log and stepping stone circuit, while the new features at Bill Cahill Reserve include a fitness station, swings, and a half basketball court.
The new Arnolds Creek Play Space contains a grassland sensory garden, a play tower with rope climbing and slides, a flying fox and an accessible spinner.
All three parks contain picnic areas, barbecues, and play spaces.
“Council is grateful to the state government for co-funding these parks,” Cr Turner said.
“Together we are prioritising up-to-date recreation spaces for Melton residents.”
