Police have been running Operation Lorry in Moorabool this week, focusing on heavy vehicle movements associated with the ongoing harvest season.

Since the operation began, highway patrol officers have intercepted 16 heavy vehicles at the weighbridge, issuing seven penalty notices, two vehicle defect notices and one warning.

The penalty notices issued relate to log book offences, load restraint and failing to obey the sign for trucks to enter the weighbridge area.

In a post on Facebook, police have posted tips to keep safe.

“When sharing the road with heavy vehicles, remember that fully loaded trucks require a greater stopping distance, so it’s important to be seen,” the post read.

“Check your blind spots when changing lanes and overtake when it is safe to do so. If you can’t see the truck drivers’ mirrors, chances are, they can’t see you either.

“Being patient on our roads will decrease your chances of becoming a patient.”
