Melton commuters are being given their first peek of what their new train station at Cobblebank will look like.
Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan unveiled designs at the station’s site last week.
The station, on Ferris Road between Rockbank and Melton, will include an accessible pedestrian overpass, secure bike parking, a bus interchange and carpark.
Ms Allan said the station, part of the half a billion-dollar Ballarat Line Upgrade, would help deliver more frequent and reliable services for growing communities along the line.
“Public transport options are critical to helping create liveable suburbs for Melbourne, now and into the future,” she said.
“We’re acting now to ensure the future residents of Cobblebank and surrounding new suburbs have access to good public transport so they can get where they need to go for work, study or recreation.”
The station will be a central feature of a town centre that will include community facilities and shops.
Ms Allan said a new bus route would be funded once the station was complete, providing locals with more travel options and better access to key destinations and services.
Construction of the new station at Cobblebank is scheduled to start before the end of the year, with preparatory work already under way.
Meanwhile, residents will be given a say on landscaping at the station at consultation sessions beginning this week.
