No charges will be laid over an incident at a COVID testing site in Melton earlier this month in which a traffic controller was injured.
The incident occurred at a Western Health testing site on January 6, prompting an investigation by police.
A Melton police spokesperson this week told Star Weekly that no charges would be laid in relation to the matter at this stage.
“WorkSafe has been out to the testing site since the incident. They have made some changes to the way traffic is being managed at that particular site to make it safer for both drivers and traffic controllers,” the spokesperson said.
On the day of the incident, Western Health chief executive Russell Harrison took to Facebook to release a statement.
Mr Harrison said everyone at Western Health was shocked to hear of the incident.
“Our healthcare workers and support staff have done an extraordinary job supporting the community throughout the COVID pandemic. Like everyone, they deserve to be safe at work,” the statement read.
“We provided debriefing and support to all staff on duty today at the Melton site. Understandably, many were upset by what took place this morning.
“Thank you to the thousands of members of our community who show respect and patience with our testing and vaccination staff and our traffic controllers and on site security teams, each day.”
