Melton’s Small Potatoes is finally getting a stock of new, state-of-the-art toys.
The Melton South playgroup, founded by Rebecca Macmillan a few months ago, has been relying on second-hand donations of books and toys.
But last week, the playgroup received $1000 from the state government to upgrade its very worn, pre-loved collection.
“At most community playgroups … generally the toys are worn,” Ms Macmillan said.
“So it’s good to be able to keep the fees low and be able to start buying some decent toys for the kids. It’s going to be fantastic.”
There are about 15 children, from babies to five-year-olds, at the playgroup, which meets every Thursday.
Ms Macmillan said both parents and children enjoyed the time away from home, and the chance to mingle with their peers.
Melton MP Don Nardella said playgroups gave parents the chance to come together and share tips, experiences and parenting skills.
“We want Melton families to have great access to quality playgroups,” Mr Nardella said.
“They are a great way for parents and children to make friends and establish support networks in our local communities.”
