Construction has begun on a new early learning centre in Melton, to help accommodate growin families in the western suburbs.
June 14 marked the official sod turn of the Rockbank Murray Road Children’s and Community Centre in Thornhill Park.
The centre will include a four room kindergarten, maternal and child health services, family and early childhood services, parenting support programs, playgroups and community programs and activities.
The kindergarten will provide about 130 places for local children.
The centre is expected to be completed by January 2023 and was funded by $4 million from the state government and $7.7 million from Melton council.
Melton mayor Goran Kesic said he was confident the new facility would provide much-needed services for young families in the area.
“Early childhood services such as these play a vital role in supporting children’s learning,
social connection and development, helping them reach their full potential,” Cr Kesic said.
“The co-location of various services at this one site means parents can access a range
of services more easily.
This centre will enable us to support many families and our youngest residents through their early development, giving them the best possible start we can.”
