Melton’s first dedicated community theatre company is kicking things off with their first ever performance.

Melton Performing Arts (MPA) Fundraiser Cabaret is coming to Rockbank hall at 6.30pm Friday, December 2nd.

The variety show will feature all manner of performing arts, from acting to dancing and music.

MPA is a new community and performing arts organisation that formed in March 2022.

Company secretary Dominic Wolfram said he has been involved in community theatre in surrounding areas for a few years, and the idea for MPA was born out of a shared feeling that it was time for Melton to have its own.

Mr Wolfram said it’s “early days” but they eventually want to host shows people can audition for, kids groups, workshops, and get people involved in things like set and costume design.

“The goal is pretty much to bring opportunities for people to get involved with community arts in Melton, not for money or anything like that just as a social and community thing,” he said.

The Fundraiser Cabaret will begin with a 30 minute information session, and has almost 15 performances lined up.

Mr Wolfram said there’s still time for more acts to register if people want to join.

“We’re really dying to get people in the room together, people from Melton who are excited about arts,” he said.

“It’s our first really big push to bring arts into Melton. We’re really excited about the possibilities, and we’re really excited about breaking ground.”

Ticket and membership information is available on the MPA website.
