A new judge has been appointed to the County Court of Victoria.
The state government announced on Tuesday that it had chosen Krista Breckweg from Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) to join the county court bench.
Ms Breckweg worked at the CDPP for 25 years, having started there as a solicitor in 1999, before serving as federal in-house counsel for more than a decade.
She has experience prosecuting federal drug offending, online domestic and international child exploitation cases and offending involving child abuse material.
Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes said Ms Breckweg was eminently qualified for the role.
“Having built an expansive career prosecuting complex cases at the federal level, Ms Breckweg brings a wealth of experience and insight to the county court,” Ms Symes said.
“Ms Breckweg has demonstrated a deep commitment to justice across a wide range of criminal law matters, and her new role will allow her to continue working toward just outcomes for all Victorians.”
Ms Breckweg studied law at La Trobe University, where she was awarded the Dean’s Medal Prize and the Supreme Court Prize.
Ms Breckweg also holds a master’s in criminology from the University of Melbourne.
