A nature walk event led by an Indigenous Traditional Owner will highlight the long, rich history of a local forest.

The Eynesbury Environment Group will hold the Walk with the Wadawurrung event on July 9, through the Grey Box Woodland.

The walk will be guided by Wadawurrung man Barry Gilson, who will share the rich Aboriginal history of the area that spans more than 60,000 years.

It will begin at 10am by the edge of the Eynesbury Woodland, at the end of Toorongo Road, and then travel to the Gorge at the southern end of the Eynesbury Woodland.

Eynesbury Environment Group president Chris Lunadi said the 280 hectare forest area was “quite special” as it had remained untouched.

“It contains evidence of Aboriginal life, people who lived there for hundreds of thousands of years,” Mr Lunadi said.

“It’s a unique spot, it’s a special spot.”

Bookings for the Walk with the Wadawurrung event can be made via Eventbrite.
