Myrniong Primary School pupils have been sailing the high seas since the addition of a pirate ship playground.

Scott Fisher, father of one pupil, volunteered his time and expertise to help design and build the new pirate ship.

Primary teacher Cameron Crilly says the children absolutely love their new playground, which can be ‘sailed’ as a tall ship or a pirate vessel, depending on what sails are rigged.

“The highlight of the pirate ship is ringing the bell and using the steering wheel. There are a couple of animals on there and a plank so the students can walk it,” Mr Crilly said.

He said the project had been made possible via a grant from Moorabool council to extend the playground. There were also contributions from the school’s fundraising committee.

“There has been really positive community spirit from everyone involved and it’s been a really great addition to our playground for the students,” Mr Crilly said.

The $12,000 pirate ship playground was unveiled early in September, and Mr Crilly says it’s a great place for the kids to spend time.

Mr Crilly thanked Mr Fisher for the time and effort he spent constructing the playground, and also thanked Moorabool council and the school committee for their efforts.

“We are certainly looking at implementing another construction nearby, which may be a castle to extend the timber look of the playground,” Mr Crilly says.
