Senior residents of aged care facility Arcare Burnside had a day of musical joy as they were visited by live music act Paul Gillett’s Big Band Day In.
Residents were treated to an exciting music performance and had the opportunity to perform alongside the band if they had a passion for singing or musical instruments.
The Big Band Day In is a group of five professional musicians who formed a band during the pandemic in order to brighten the lives of aged care residents through music and song.
89-year-old Irene was one of the residents who performed with the band, singing songs in English and German for the other residents.
Irene said she taught herself to play the piano accordion as a child and loved to attend community singalongs and live entertainment.
“I have always loved listening to music, especially Andre Rieu,” Irene said.
81-year-old Hazel is a former music teacher and choir singer who also sang some of her favourite songs with the band.
Arcare Burnside lifestyle coordinator Jamie Gillies said the residents were anxious to perform, but were made to feel comfortable to step out of their comfort zone.
