Singing the same song at the same time with students across Australia has become a tradition for students at Balliang East Primary School.
In the past four years, students at Balliang East Primary have taken part in the Music: Count Us In (MCUI) initiative.
The national event involves more than 500,000 students at more than 2100 schools live-streaming across the nation as they sing the same song simultaneously.
This year’s mentor for MCUI is Marcia Hines, who has worked closely with this year’s student songwriters and program ambassador John Foreman to create the MCUI song, Gold.
Balliang East Primary music teacher Julie Wood said this would be the fourth year that students at Balliang East Primary had joined in.
“The pupils have been practising this term once or twice a week,” she said. “I think it’s a really good initiative that reflects a positive outlook on music.”.
The event will be held on Thursday, October 29, from 12.30pm, with the aim of highlighting the important role music plays in educational development.
“The students enjoy it even more, knowing that other schools are participating as well,” Ms Wood said.
“Music Count Us In plays such a vital role in bringing the joy of music to school children around the country,” Ms Hines said.
“Kids should have the opportunity to be involved in music at an early age, and this program does that.”
