A Plumpton mother and daughter are preparing to lop off their long golden locks for charity.
Caitlin Wahlert and Alicia Pansino, 7, are planning to cut their hair at the end of this month and donate it to Louise Barnett and Sons to be fashioned into wigs for people with cancer.
The duos’ crowdfunding campaign has now reached more than $300 on GoFundMe, but they hope to raise $1500 for the Orange Pigeon foundation, which grants wishes for adults living with terminal illness.
“I saw that a friend of mine cut her hair for charity and I thought, what a great idea,” Ms Wahlert said.
“I was getting sick of my hair being long so I wanted to do something to help other people. The last time I wore my hair short, I was 10.”
It will be Alicia’s very first haircut and Ms Wahlert’s first in 16 years.
“Alicia wasn’t going to do it in the beginning but once she saw I was cutting my hair for a good cause she wanted to help, too,” Ms Wahlert said .
“We’re not shaving our heads, but we’re cutting it to above our shoulders, leaving just enough to be able to put it into a ponytail.
“I wanted to donate some money to The Orange Pigeon foundation because I understand it’s the only charity of its kind in Australia that grant wishes to adults.
“My dad had cancer 10 years ago so I want to be able to help others going through the same thing.”
