A Melton South school will be among the government schools to receive multi-storey classrooms ahead of the 2026 school year in a bid to ease enrolment pressures.
The state government has announced it will provide 54 multi-storey classrooms, with Staughton College to receive two double-storey classrooms.
The classrooms will be installed and open for students by term one next year, providing capacity for an extra 200 students at the school, according to the state government.
The new classrooms are part of the government’s $184 million 2025-26 modular classrooms program for areas of high population growth.
The government said the multi-storey classrooms incorporate the latest innovations to provide teachers and students with modern learning environments, including double-glazed windows and improved insulation to reduce heat loss, special wall and ceiling linings to reduce internal noise reverberation, energy efficient design and external window shades.
Melton MP Steve McGhie said the new double-storey classrooms will allow Staughton College to welcome even more students.
Education Minister Ben Carroll said the modular classroom buildings provided a fast and flexible solution to the growing needs of local schools.
“We’re delivering modern, multi-storey classrooms because we know that quality infrastructure gives our students and teachers the learning environment they need to achieve their best,” he said.
