MP warns on preschool funds ‘limbo’

Moorabool toddlers could be among those “left in limbo” if preschools do not receive federal funding next year, according to Ballarat MP Catherine King.

Ms King visited Darley Kindergarten last week to promote a national campaign calling on the government to fund preschools.

Ms King said the campaign was aimed to end uncertainty for families in Moorabool.

“There is literally no funding in the 2018-19 budget for universal access to preschool and no further provisions for preschools,” she said.

“This is not good enough for the future of our children.

“This lack of support for preschools by the government means families and
staff in Moorabool can’t plan for the future.”

Ms King said that the campaign, which includes a petition, would call for certainty and commitment to long-term funding for universal access to
preschool.

“There is no doubt that access to four-year-old preschool gives our children the best headstart to school and for life,” she said.
