More than an OK day at Kurunjang Secondary College

“It’s OK to ask for help” – that was the main message Kurunjang Secondary College spread on RUOK Day.

A range of activities, including a coffee and cupcake run for school staff, were held last Thursday to remind people to ask someone, “Are you OK”, and support those who may be struggling with mental health issues.

School student support services leader Melanie Hayward said many of the activities were planned by the year 11 students who were preparing for year 12, which can be a very stressful.

“This year we have recognised that mental health awareness is vitally important for students, families and the wider community,” Ms Hayward said. “We’re promoting positive mental health messages.”

The day also involved the provision of information so students knew where to access support services.

Ms Hayward said students appreciated being able to dedicate a day to mental health awareness.
