Two Weir Views bridges are set to receive upgrades thanks to more than $1million in federal funding.

Federal Regional Development Minister Kristy McBain MP and Hawke MP Sam Rae have announced an investment of $1,013,150 to support the upgrade of two concrete bridges on Exford and Greigs Roads in Weir Views.

The funding is one of 31 projects to share in $38 million under the latest round of the Bridges Renewal Program.

This project is aimed at improving access for road freight in Melton, delivering more jobs and making it easier to get commuters where they need to go.

Mr Rae said investment in projects like this are “vital to back our local economy in while improving liveability in

our area”.

“This project will support much-needed jobs during construction – I can’t wait to see Melton reap the benefits,” he said.

“I’m fighting to make sure Melton gets the road investment it deserves.”

Ms McBain said bridges are “vital infrastructure in so many of our regional communities, and are critical access

points that link businesses to markets and locals to family, friends and services”.

“That’s why we’re investing up to $85 million per year through the Bridges Renewal Program to

upgrade and replace aging infrastructure, ensuring bridges are ready for today’s demands and

tomorrow’s growth,” she said.

“This will improve the safety of our road networks, better connect communities, and reduce

freight costs for businesses by ensuring that bigger and more productive vehicles can safely

cross.”
