Multicultural seniors’ groups across Melton and Moorabool will have more support to stay connected to culture and community, thanks to state government grants.
More than 900 multicultural seniors’ groups across Victoria are set to receive $2000 per year over the next four years to support a reduction in isolation, to help foster social connections, and to help build stronger connections with community.
Local recipients include Australian Bosnian Women’s Association Zena Zeni, Caroline Springs Seniors Fishing Club Inc, Indian Seniors Association-West Inc, Macedonian Senior Citizen Group of Hillside Inc, Macedonian Women’s Group of Hillside Inc, and Australian Integrated Fijian Association of Victoria Inc.
Sydenham MP Natalie Hutchins said it was important to support the groups that create a safe space for the older generation to connect with one another.
“It is so important for our multicultural seniors to be able to reconnect with their communities and celebrate their cultural connections as Victoria emerges from the pandemic,” Ms Hutchins said.
“This funding will help support community groups to deliver social and cultural activities in person or online.”
The state government also encourages any newly established multicultural seniors’ groups or those who did not receive a direct funding offer to apply online through the Multicultural Seniors Support program.
Applications for funding close February 28, 2025.
