About 40 new Australian citizens will receive a ‘warm welcome’ in Moorabool next week, with two ceremonies set to mark their official citizenship.

Hosted by Moorabool mayor Paul Tatchell on Tuesday, June 17, the ceremonies will include 32 adults and seven children who will receive their official Australian citizenship.

According to the council, the new citizens were born in countries across the globe, including Malta, North Macedonia, FYR Macedonia, India, China, England, New Zealand, Philippines, Canada, Iran, Afghanistan, Jersey, Lebanon and Pakistan.

Mr Tatchell said the events are significant in Moorabool’s calendar and are an opportunity to reflect on the privilege of Australian citizenship and what it means to be Australian.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to give a warm welcome to our newest citizens and acknowledge the importance of what it means to become a full member of the Australian community,” Cr Tatchell said.

“There is no greater privilege than our citizenship. It’s a life-long commitment to Australia’s values of freedom, democracy, equality and respect,” he said.

“I congratulate those becoming Australian citizens on making their commitment to Australia” Cr Tatchell said.

Hosted at the West Maddingley Early Years and Community Hub in Maddingley, the first ceremony will begin at 5pm and the second at 5.45pm.
