Moorabool is once again taking part in the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign running between Tuesday 25 November and Wednesday 10 December to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
This year’s local theme Shine a Light brings focus to the safety of women in public spaces at night, a concern which is being echoed across communities worldwide.
Moorabool mayor Steve Venditti-Taylor welcomed the creative contribution of the Wombat Regional Arts Network, which has played a major role in delivering this year’s event.
“The network has brought their public art installation expertise to this campaign, transforming the village Green in Bacchus Marsh into a welcoming, illuminating public space that encourages community interaction and reflection,” Cr Venditti-Taylor said.
At the heart of the activation is MaPP Ip in Lights Gallery, featuring nine glowing lightboxes set between the Village Green and the nearby carpark.
The installation extends into the surrounding trees and pathways, aimed at creating a vibrant night-time landscape designed to spark awareness and conversation while shining a light on the issue affecting communities across the globe.
“It looks amazing and will portray a powerful message and create conversations about the 16 Days of Activism’s Respect campaign,” Cr Venditti-Taylor said.
Residents are encouraged to visit the installation throughout the 16 Days campaign and take part in the ongoing community conversation about respect, safety and equality.
