Moorabool council’s rating strategy is now underway to be reviewed for the 2022-23 rating year, with the shire calling on residents to provide feedback.
After consultation in July 2021 with Mach2 Consulting and councillor workshops undertaken between August and November, council has released options for the community to provide feedback on.
The first of three options is to make no change to the current number and level of differential rates.
A second option involves decreasing the farmland differential from 78 per cent to a range between 70 per cent and 65 per cent. This option would also change the extractive industries from 312 per cent to a range between 280 per cent and 260 per cent of general rates and make no change to the other differential rates.
The last option is to introduce a municipal charge of between $100 and $200 and make no change to the current number and level of differential rates
Community feedback will be formally heard at a council meeting in April 2022, with a formal decision regarding the rate structure scheduled to be heard at the May 2022 meeting. This will then feed into the Draft 2022-23 budget.
The feedback closes on March 6, 2022.
