Moorabool council has adopted its 2023-24 budget with minimal changes to the draft document released in April.

The latest budget, which was adopted at a special meeting of council on May 17, included more than $61 million in expenditure, which Moorabool mayor Rod Ward said is council’s “largest ever investment”.

The bulk of the spend is going towards a $56.4 million capital works program, with the the biggest single project being $7.5 million for the Bacchus Marsh Racecourse Recreation Reserve, with $6 million going towards stage one of the pavilion, $950,000 for stage two, and another $563,000 for cricket training nets.

Other major works include $5.9 million for a new Ballan Library, $5.2 million for a West Maddingley early years facility, and $3.4 million for the Bacchus Marsh Bowls Club Pavilion and Bowling Green.

Roads are also a focus of the newly adopted budget, with Hogan Road and Densley Street in Ballan, Ballan-Egerton road in Mount Egerton, Riversdale Crescent in Darley, and Lal lal’s Eaglesons Road and Gordon’s Stanley Street sharing $3.82 million in works.

Councillor Moira Berry said the budget “supports and benefits our community”.

“The community has been listened to and considered. It is ensuring we are well placed for the purpose of our future,” she said.
