Moorabool has once again come alive with colour of summer as the Pick Your Own Sunflower farm reopened to the public.

Located on a 30-acre property in Dunnstown, the popular farm has bloomed with hundreds of flowers with distinctive long green stalks and yellow petals.

Now in its third year of operation, founder Laiken Britt said she was ecstatic to welcome the public back.

“It’s been going really well, we’ve had high numbers of guests like last year and a lot of return customers as well” she said.

Having grown up in Europe where sunflower farms are common, Ms Britt said she was inspired to bring the concept to Victoria.

“They’re just so bright and happy,” she said,

“My husband is a farmer, so we’re using our land. I’d never seen any sunflower farms in Victoria, we didn’t even know if they would grow. We just put one bag [of seeds] in and hoped for the best.”

After arriving at the farm, visitors are encouraged to bring their own secateurs and a bucket for collecting and taking home their sunflowers.

Ms Britt suggested that visitors wear boots and bring sunscreen to protect from the summer heat.

Entry into the farm is $5 and the sunflowers are $2 a stem.
