Moment’s paws for animal welfare

Take a moment’s paws this month and think about the thousands of animals subject to cruelty.

And in May, take out your running shoes, prepare your pooches and fight against animal cruelty by taking part in RSPCA’s Million Paws Walk.

Melton West woman Stacey will do the three-kilometre walk at Navan Park with her five-month-old daughter, Lillian, and two-year-old golden retriever, Roy.

Money raised through entry fees, sale of merchandise and online fundraising will help fund RSPCA Victoria’s work, including the care of more than 28,000 animals that enter the organisation’s shelters each year.

Those taking part in this year’s walk will receive a free frisbee for their pooches.

RSPCA Victoria chief executive Liz Walker said community support was vital to raising funds and awareness about animal cruelty.

“By taking part in a Million Paws Walk, you’ll be helping to fight animal cruelty while enjoying a great day out with like-minded dog lovers,” Dr Walker said.

The walk will begin at 10am on Sunday, May 15, at the Navan Park, 15 Galilee Boulevard, Melton West.

Entry tickets bought before Friday, April 8, will cost $10 for adults; tickets bought on the day will cost $17 on the day.
