A number of events happening in Melton and Caroline Springs will commemorate National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week.
Commencing this Sunday, May 26 and continuing to until June 3, Melton council will host a range of community events.
The aim is to raise awareness about the impact of Stolen Generation and reconciliation in Australia as well as support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The wide variety of activities, including a Sorry Day author talk, a cultural education session, and an elemental wellbeing workshop, will explore the shared histories, cultures and traditions of First Nations people.
Mayor Kathy Majdlik said she encouraged locals to engage with the occasion and take the opportunity to learn.
“I hope City of Melton residents will get involved in these local events and help bring about a greater understanding, value and respect for each other and our shared histories and
Cultures,” she said.
“National Reconciliation Week is a time for all of us to learn about shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to reconciliation.”
Residents are invited to share what reconciliation means to them to enter a draw to win one of 10 $50 shopping vouchers.
