Melton South dad still seeking justice for son

A Melton South man is vowing to find justice for his son who died in a house fire in 2012.

The family of Daniel Sheehy, 18, believe “gang members” set their son’s bedroom alight in the early hours of March 14, 2012.

But earlier this year, a coroner ruled the fire was most likely caused accidentally by a discarded cigarette.

About two weeks ago, Damien Sheehy started a petition on change.org urging the Police and Emergency Services Minister Wade Noonan to review the coroner’s findings into his son’s death.

More than 1000 people have already signed the petition.

“The only time the media help is when it suits them. Please, will you support our cause for justice? No family should live this in life,” the petition states

Mr Sheehy told Star Weekly new evidence had surfaced, which “strongly” suggested foul play in his son’s death.

At the time, neighbours gave evidence a “foreign-looking” car and a man were seen near the house during the fire.

And hours before the blaze, Mr Sheehy junior told his girlfriend of fears he had of a man who had threatened him over suspicions Mr Sheehy had spoken about the man to a drug dealer.

The night before he died, the teenager also told his father he was worried that members of a drug gang would “run through” their home, state coroner Ian Gray said in his findings.

“I think this was summed up too quickly,” Mr Sheehy said. “I’ll go to me grave knowing he was murdered until they prove me otherwise.”
