Local Melton businesses have been transformed after the recent completion of a Shopfront Revitalisation Project in Scott Street, Melton, and Staughton Street and Exford Road in Melton South.

The project saw 14 local traders receive $2,000 to help bring their shopfronts back to life.

Melton council and the state government jointly funded the project through a $100,000 Neighbourhood Renewal Program grant.

Melton Mayor Goran Kesic said that it’s critical for council to implement initiatives to drive economic uplift and stimulate consumer confidence within our business precincts.

“Council, in every sense of the word, values our local business community, not only for the critical role they play in driving our local economy but also for providing the local jobs our residents are looking for,” Cr Kesic said.

“As we navigate our way through the economic challenges brought on by the COVID pandemic, these revitalised shopping strips will make an important difference to the local community, improving safety and amenity for residents and business owners alike.”

Working with a retail design agency, traders brought their visions for shopfront improvement to life by rebranding and upgrading existing infrastructure.

Council also made significant improvements to the overall amenity and safety of these areas including streetscaping, lighting, and planting, as well as infrastructure upgrades.

“I’m confident this project will make a meaningful difference to the people who frequent these shops and we’re grateful that the Victorian government has partnered with us on this outstanding project,” Cr Kesic said.

Cr Kesic and Melton MP Steve McGhie celebrated the completion of this project on Saturday February 5 at a community event featuring free food from traders, live music and activities for kids.

A second community event at Scott Street, Melton, will take place on Saturday February 12.
