Race-goers will enjoy the benefits of new upgrades to Tabcorp Park Melton, allowing for more community involvement and enjoyment of the grounds.

The state government will invest $1.63 million from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund, in order to upgrade the infield to be suitable for public use and upgrade the park’s lighting.

Harness Racing Victoria is also contributing $545,000 in funding for the upgrades.

Minister for Racing Martin Pakula said the Victorian government was working to support the racing industry.

“We’re backing these upgrades to support the harness racing industry to create a strong and viable future,” Mr Pakula said.

The upgrades will allow the refurbished infield to be used as space for marquee’s, children’s activities and entertainment on race days, as well as equestrian events, festivals, trade shows or community activities on non-racing days.

The funding will also provide new LED floodlights, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the facility by 40 per cent and save more than $500,000 in electricity costs over 15 years.

The new lighting will also improve broadcast quality and provide a better view of the track for visitors.

Melton MP Steve McGhie said the government investment would mean the local community had another “terrific asset”.

“Tabcorp Park Melton is an important facility for the local community, attracting visitors and participants to the region and providing a focal point for entertainment in Melton,” Mr McGhie said.

Harness Racing Victoria chair Dale Monteith said the organisation was grateful for the funding boost from the government.

“Thanks to the Victorian government’s support we’re able to progress these two great initiatives that strengthen our operation and further enhance our relationship and involvement with the Melton community.”
