One of the biggest events on the harness racing calendar, the City of Melton Plate, is back for another year.
This year marks the 11th year that the prestigious event has been held at Tabcorp Park, after previously running at Moonee Valley from 1989.
Tabcorp Park general manager Gayle Harvey said it was shaping up as another massive event.
“it’s very important for us, and one of our favourite events of the year,” Ms Harvey said.
“We’re really proud to have this event, because it was a bold move to move it from Moonee Valley when they did, and we’ve embraced it and brought it into the local community, and we love that.
“It’s not one of the biggest group one nights, as far as the racing goes, but it is a great night because there’s lots of good races and lots of awards, and it’s about supporting the local community and local businesses.”
Up to 3000 people are expected to come along on the night, with a number of attractions away from the track as well.
“It’s a council-run event, and council arranges a lot of local businesses to come along on the night,” Ms Harvey said.
“On top of that, we will be holding a night market with a number of stalls to encourage the community to come along, and we’ll also have some food trucks, entertainment, and an after party in the sports bar which will be lots of fun.
“It’s also a great night of racing, and it’s a very kid and family-friendly event every year.”
