Teamwork is the way forward for Melton council, according to new mayor Bob Turner.
This will be the second time the experienced Coburn ward councillor has been sworn in as the council’s leader, having served in the role in 2013-14.
He was elected at a special meeting on November 2 to replace Sophie Ramsey, who filled the position for the past year.
Cr Turner said it was an exciting time to be mayor.
“I’m really looking forward to tackling the challenges ahead, and will continue to advocate on behalf of our residents to ensure the city continues to prosper and grow,” he said.
“The next 12 months will be an exciting challenge that I look forward to with great enthusiasm.
“In leading this council, I look forward to pooling our strengths and working together as a team to serve the best interests of our community. I am determined to lead
council in achieving the aspirations of the community.”
Cr Turner was first elected to council in 2008 and re-elected in 2012 and 2016.
He served as deputy mayor in 2012-13 and 2016-17.
Fellow Coburn ward councillor Ken Hardy was elected deputy mayor.
Melton council’s second last meeting of the year will be on Monday, November 13, at the civic centre from 7pm.
