A young rising performer will have her time to shine on the national stage, as one of the stars of a new ABC ME television show.

Ayiana Ncube, a Caroline Springs local, will play one of the lead roles in the ten-part musical Turn Up The Volume.

The show will follow a group of young female and gender diverse teenagers who start a band at a music camp held in Melbourne’s inner west.

Ayiana is no stranger to the screen, having already featured on other shows such as The InBESTigators and Get Krack!n.

Turn Up The Volume is inspired by the documentary No Time For Quiet, which followed the first Girls Rock! Camp in Melbourne, exploring the power of music.

The cast also includes emerging young talents Riya Mandrawa, Erza James, Elaine King and Mira Russo, as well as established Australian actors such as Justine Clarke, Spencer McLaren, Keith Brockett and Debra Lawrence.

ABC head of children’s Libbie Doherty said the show explores identity, love and teen loss set against the struggles of growing up, through the medium of music.

“Turn Up The Volume is a heartfelt voyage through the streets of Footscray for young girls and gender non-conforming teens,” she said.

Filming on the show has recently commenced, with the program expected to air next year.
