A Melton-based learner driver mentor program has celebrated a huge milestone.
The 100th driver graduated from the L2P program run by Djerriwarrh Community and Education Service last month.
L2P project officer Kim Leech said 100 graduates were testament to the “huge amount of goodwill” given to Melton and Moorabool young people by local volunteers.
“Local businesses, council and police also continue contributing to those in need via support to the L2P program,” Ms Leech said. “It’s a great feeling to be part of this sharing of goodwill for the community, … [it] demonstrated fantastic community spirit.”
Gary King joined the L2P program almost four years ago and has mentored 11 young people since then.
His student, Achol, was the scheme’s 100th driver successful in obtaining a licence. Achol is a single mother of two who says a licence will mean more independence for her young family.
