Powerful messages of hope, respect and resilience will be sprawled across Melton this month.

As part of Week Without Violence events, Djerriwarrh Health Services (DJHS) is hosting T-shirt painting workshops at which people are encouraged to write messages to domestic violence victims and raise awareness of the violence scourge.

The T-shirts will be displayed across the municipality.

“Violence against women is a community issue and, in order to address the causes and consequences of violence, we have to develop strategies for people to work together to make a change,” DJHS chief executive Andrew Freeman said.

The DJHS health promotion team will host the Melton Week Without Violence event at 10am on Tuesday, October 13, at The Corner @McKenzie.

There will be a free barbecue and opportunities for people to write messages on T-shirts.

“More than one woman a week is killed in Australia as a result of violence perpetrated by a man,” Mr Freeman said.

“Campaigns like Week Without Violence are a great opportunity for communities to come together and take action on this issue.”

Week Without Violence runs from October 12 to 18, and encourages people to imagine seven days – 168 hours, 10,080 minutes, 604,080 seconds – without violence against women. Details: 9361 9360
