Melton to honour firies

Melton council will make a sizeable donation to the ongoing bushfire appeal, and is also planning a special thank you for local firefighters who have assisted at the fire front.
The council last week endorsed a $20,000 donation to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal, after mayor Lara Carli raised the idea as a notice of motion at last week’s meeting.
A subsequent motion from Cr Sophie Ramsey was also passed, which will see council hold a reception for firefighters and emergency workers and volunteers from the municipality to acknowledge
their contribution in responding to the recent bushfires across the country.
The event will be held at a later time when the bushfire season has eased.
Cr Carli said she was proud of the efforts of locals in assisting in the recovery from the devastating bushfires.
“I want to thank our emergency services workers,” she said.
“I was also really touched to see our community members and how they rallied together. I have seen people opening up their houses, and taking donations and driving them down to Gippsland, so I really want to say thank you to all the City of Melton community for what they’ve done.”
Cr Ramsey paid tribute to the Melton community members who have helped the fire efforts in any way.
“To everybody involved with the fire, to everybody that’s fundraised, and to everybody that’s selflessly gone to assist in any small way, thank you,” Cr Ramsey said.
