The latest data from the department of health has revealed Melton has reached over 95 per cent double vaccination rates.

This is an increase of 1.1 per cent since last week where the second dose rate was sitting at 93.9 per cent.

Despite the high vaccination rates, Melton remains one of the top 10 local government areas with COVID cases, with 632 active cases and 63 new cases as of Tuesday.

Victoria’s new cases dropped back to triple digits with 918 cases recorded in the 24 hours to Tuesday. There are currently 11,417 active cases in the state.

The latest data comes as concerns grow over the new Omicron variant, which was first detected in South African on November 24.

As of midnight on Saturday, travellers entering Victoria from one of nine southern African countries in the past 14 days will be required to undertake 14 days of hotel quarantine.

The countries listed are Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, The Seychelles, and Zimbabwe.

The department of health believes the number of travellers in this category to be very small and they are being contacted directly.
