Melton residents will have a chance to learn about the area’s 150 year old history at the upcoming Heritage Festival.
Throughout April, the City of Melton will host a variety of events and exhibitions to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the municipality.
The festival will recognise the cultural heritage of First Peoples, as well as the historic buildings, landscapes, places and stories that make up Melton’s history.
Local events will include the Melton 150th anniversary online exhibition, a dingo history lesson for kids, a dinosaur exploration with Museums Victoria, a guided tour of the former Mowbray College, a guided river walk at Lozzbert Reserve and more.
City of Melton mayor Cr Goran Kesic encouraged residents to come along to discover and explore the different parts of Melton’s rich heritage.
“This is an opportunity to learn more about Melton’s past, from its early pastoral history and the gold rush, through to post-war growth and suburban development,
“There’s so many fun and varied activities for all ages, whether you want to find out about dinosaurs, historic buildings, or local experiences,” Cr Kesic said.
The official festival launch will take place on April 21 with a twilight event at Melton Library and Learning Hub and will include a first look at some historic displays documenting the experience of early Melton residents and a performance from local Australiana band Drongo and the Crow for kids to enjoy.
