Melton aircraft enthusiasts and families looking for fun are in for a treat this Sunday, with local model aircraft taking to the sky.
The Melton Model Aircraft Association will hold their annual open day on their Faulkner Road flying field, with a variety of winged flying machines set to wow crowds of up to 1000 people.
While conventional large scale aircraft, war-birds, jets and other models will be among those on display, unorthodox models such as a two metre flying iron will also be launched, among other special displays.
Organiser David Axon said it was their biggest annual event.
“We’re there to show the public what we do and give them an entertaining day,“ Mr Axon said.
“Being a community organisation we want to show the people what we do during the year, and we always do it the day after the Djerriwarrh Festival so it makes a fun family weekend.
“We’re getting more people along each year.“
One of the highlights each year is the lolly drop, with children invited out onto the runway, and a model aircraft dumping lollies from above.
Entry to the event is free, with food and drinks for sale on the day.
Mr Axon said there would be opportunities after the day for anyone wanting to join the club to come along and give it a try.
“We don’t let people fly them on this day, but if they’re keen I’ll call them on a nice day and they can come and have a go,“ he said.
