Melton council have announced four new contractors that will maintain local roads, sportsgrounds, parks and trees from July onwards.
The council have entered into four separate contracts in order to provide more tailored and effective services across the municipality, replacing the single contractor who was previously completing local maintenance.
The four individual contracts will allow for more specific servicing as well as creating more local jobs for residents.
The changes were informed by community feedback gathered in the council’s Parks and Roads Maintenance Satisfaction Survey last year.
DM Roads will maintain roads, stormwater pipes and pits, bridges, signs and street furniture, traffic control devices, kerbs and paths.
DM Roads delivery manager Dinaksha Hemachandra said the company was committed to carbon neutrality and will reduce emissions by 25 per cent during the contract, including using an electric truck.
Green Options will service local sports fields, ball protection fences, coaches boxes and irrigation systems.
GreenLife Group will manage more than 1366 of local open space including playgrounds, irrigation, pre-school grounds, rain gardens, skate parks, drinking fountains, fences, furniture, cricket facilities, tennis courts, barbeques and sports courts.
Citywide will be responsible for maintaining more than 91,000 local trees, including those in residential streets across all suburbs in the municipality, as well as open space areas.
Melton mayor Goran Kesic said the council was delighted to partner with the organisations, who have committed to employ locals to bring jobs to Melton.
“As our population grows, the community expects roads, parks, and recreation facilities to improve and we are dedicated to delivering just that,” Cr Kesic said.
“Each of these companies are specialists in their own area of expertise across roads, trees, parks and sports grounds and that’s why we’ve made the decision to go with them.”
