Melton will play host to a FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands event on Saturday, December 2.
The Western Metropolitan Regional Final heat will be held at Melton Community Hall, 238 High Street from 6-10.15pm.
Hollow December is one band which will “battle it out” on Saturday.
Bassist Dylan Jepsen, 18, said the alternative rock band was excited about being selected to compete in the Melton heat.
A win in the heat would mean the band scores a spot in the grand final at Australia’s largest free festival, St Kilda Festival which attracts more than 400,000 visitors every year.
“To get to play in St Kilda would be really cool, Dylan said. “We’d get a fair bit more exposure, which would be great.”
The band is made up of five 18-year-old Williamstown High School students who have just completed year 12 exams.
Now that school’s out, Dylan and his bandmates Johnsen Cummings (vocals, guitar), Luca Martin (drums), Oliver Voogd (synthesiser/keyboard) and Amos Gibson (violin) – all self-proclaimed “music nerds” – are busy rehearsing.
With hundreds of acts competing for a place in regionals, only nine can make it to the grand final on The Push Stage at St Kilda Fesival on Sunday, February 11.
Entry is $8 online, or $10 at the door.
The Melton event is fully supervised and for all ages. It is also a drug, smoke and alcohol free event. No pass outs available.
